THE WOVEN WORD
SUMMER CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP
for Middle and High School Age Writers
July 21-25, 9 AM – 1 PM
in Hadley
About the Workshop: This workshop is designed to create safe space to develop each writer’s unique voice, since there are stories and poems that belong to each of us alone.
The Amherst Writers & Artists method takes writers to both unexpected and familiar places, while supporting them in an affirming space among their peers. We focus on creativity, not grammar or spelling. The workshop is anchored in the conviction that every voice is beautiful, that every person deserves to be heard; and that knowing you are heard is itself a dramatically empowering act.
This workshop program will involve two daily writing and sharing sessions, a recreational break with swimming & kayaking near our houseboat on the Connecticut River, and drawing, painting, or flower picking on the farm land where we live.
Workshop leader Lynn Bowmaster is a published poet who has led workshops in her home, Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Middle School, Hilltown Cooperative Charter School, Finn Ryan Road Elementary School, and Holyoke Community College.
For info: contact Lynn at 584-3373, Lrbowmaster

Pipes of Pan's bright words in uttered sound begin to fly
and float about a Space filled with pairs of eaGer ears open
wide to viVid minds, some more'n willin' to ride the Wild Juice
of this Stream o' Con Ki-o-tay Trixter Messenger Now some
two more years have cycled on through and it seems his lines,
never sullied by the published page or the bold imprimateur of
some faceless arbitrary hand, have been spoken-word-heard
more than 100 times afar and wide as he stands before you
here these days and eves just like some Third Millenial
Troubadour So invite him over some time, he'll gladly sing
for his supper and what's more...

Poetry at Peaberry's Café Simsbury, CT
ArtSpeak
4th Saturday of every month.
This month's date, June 28th
Because local artists are important, and should be celebrated.
Peaberry's Cafe
712 Hopmeadow St
Simsbury, CT
(860) 658-2930
Host Robert Dauphinais
Peaberry's, a great alternative to the local bar scene, is a cosy little
cafe that seeks to give local artists support, a voice, and a venue!
Help us keep this dream alive! Food is served all night and wine, beer,
and coffee cordials are served after 5:00.
The night will begin at 7:30 and go until 9:30, however,
if there is an abundance of artists, we will go until 10:00.
Our aim is to create an environment where poets of all ages
will feel welcome and wanted, as well as challenged.
We want this to be an atmosphere where artists can share
and network, and, most importantly, grow!
All ages are welcome and we ask that each artist be sensitive
to the audience and what may or may not be appropriate.
Beyond this request, we want to keep censorship to a minimum,
and we support freedom of speech and expression.
So come, bring your friends, students, parents, children, neighbors...
let's see if we can set the CT poetry scene on fire!
Please email Leanne at
with any questions or suggestions.

THE SUNKEN GARDEN POETRY FESTIVAL IS BACK!
The summer-long Sunken Garden Poetry Festival returns
this summer to Hill-Stead Museum in Farmington following
a one-year hiatus. Jeffrey Levine, poet, publisher, and teacher,
has assumed the role of Artistic Director for the 16th season
of the Festival, which will include some of the most talented
poets and musicians in the country. In June, the festival kicks
off with Robert Pinsky on the 11th, followed by the Connecticut
Poetry Circuit Winners and Coleman Barks on the 26th.
Over the course of the summer, the scheduled poets include
such brand names as Billy Collins and Paul Muldoon and, as
always, the Night Of Fresh Voices. (Check out the Summer
Performance Series page on the web site for all upcoming readings.)
There will also be music at each event, too; the format will be mixed:
some evenings, poetry and music will be separate, other evenings
they will be interspersed, such as when Coleman Barks reads Rumi
accompanied by cellist Eugene Friesen.

discussion group offering food for the mind and the heart?
If so, come and join us on the first Sunday of the month
from 4.30-6.00 PM
at The Sanctuary in East Haddam, Connecticut,

This is not about sharing our own work but instead offers
